I've shared these two desktop wallpapers in my blog before but if you are new to it you may not have seen them.   I love having santa on my computer all through December ... they both look great on big screen computers especially.
Enjoy .... but please don't share them anywhere else.

Wow ... just returned from a long trip down to Vancouver to see relatives and then east to see more relatives.  Just got home yesterday and today there is heaps of snow and lots of high winds so we picked the right day to travel.  Actually two days ....   I sure don't like those long, highways that seem to go on forever, with trucks and cars zooming past you at unbelievable speeds... very scary ....

I had fun at the Walmart because I don't get to visit one of those at all ... got lots of clothes and pretty things .. now I'm back home to have a "vacation" and rest up.  Our little Peanut Daisy took the long trip all in her stride. Slept most of the way in the car and was totally behaved and loving to all those new people she met along the way.   She too is glad to be back ...   And I didn't buy a single new handbag.   lol .....

Use the image as you wish but please don't upload it to any sharing place.
I hope all my Canadian friends had a great Thanksgiving yesterday.  We were invited to share dinner with old friends, and a great time was had by all.   Lots of laughing and sharing of stories.

End of summer already....back home in Australia they are getting ready to see their lovely gardens blooming and the heat for Christmas.  I don't miss the hot days at all but instead i am patiently waiting to see the gorgeous snow fill up our yard and this year we have a snow thrower which should help.  Shovelling the snow seems to be the only real exercise I get during the long winter months and I'm certainly not going to be walking on the ice....can't risk another bad fall.  Hurry up snow...it will give me an excuse to buy a warm new coat.

Love these .. always elegant in black and white

Black and white images are among my favourites.  And of course if they are vintage they always show the lovely costumes and hats etc.  When I worked at the Museum and Art Gallery in Australia I handled a lot of decorative arts which included costumes and jewelry from Victorian times especially.  I put on my white gloves before I touched anything and had the most enjoyable times ... not like being at work at all.   I think the image below is particularly beautiful with the lace curtains, collar and cloth on the window sill.  And she's a pretty lady as well.

Enjoying the tennis

Sitting up in bed watching the US Open tennis with my Miss Peanut Daisy dog. She's super snuggly....and of course wants to help me devour my cookies. Rain is coming down heavily which is good because the rivers and streams are very low which will make it tough for the beautiful salmon to come home to where they were born. They are so incredibly clever .... much like the geese.   Nothing nicer than hearing rain when you are tucked up in bed.

Woo! Hoo!

How nice it is to sit in your brand new car ... when nobody else has owned it ... when its only got 200 kms on the meter ... when everything is shiny, and smells like leather.  Love it.   And so does our little Miss Peanut Daisy dog .... Now we can look forward to some nice driving trips around our beautiful province of British Columbia.  Can't wait.  A pretty spot near our home....

Pretty Bags to Make

I came across this pattern a while back and thought they were so nice.  Easy to make and what a nice way to dress up your outfit for summer or spring.  I'd love taking these to flea markets or outdoor events  ... I guess if you want the pattern you can go to the website mentioned.

Terrible Mother

Oh dear ... my sweet little dog, Peanut Daisy must think I'm a terrible mother after trying to cut her toenails.  What a fiasco that was  .. she is absolutely terrified of anyone touching her toes so I'm guessing she's had a bad experience in her previous home.  I know she had a bad time and needed rescuing (which we did) .. but I felt so sad and bad at having to trim the bear-like claws at least down a little bit.  I managed to get them done after a whole lot of wrapping her up, holding her down, tapping her lightly on the nose to try and get her to stop being so silly ....shouting at her to stop it ...  it was quite an effort and I was exhausted when we were done.  I thought she'd pack up her little doggie bag (toys and all) and leave home at the first opportunity.   But thank goodness she still loves her mum and we are "friends" again.  And she has perfectly groomed toenails fit for a beauty queen.

Thank You

I just wanted to thank everyone who has commented on my blog.  Blogspot can be a bit of a bother sometimes and I've only just re-read all the comments that have been made and posted.  Inspiring, and lovely to read what you think about my life here in the woods, and information about my pets and the wildlife that surrounds me.

My dad used to love animals and I'm guessing I got my love for them from him.  Bless him I miss him so much.  He used to take me fishing and we'd sit on the wharf for hours hoping to catch something. Some days I caught nothing more than a bad cold ..but it was fun and I was happy to be with him.

Do comment on my posts.  I'm not sure if they should have headers or not...titles ... for each one but I've not added those at all ... unlike my hubby who always puts a post header in his blog..  Anyway adding to my blog each day or when I remember too, helps to fill in the long hours of retirement living up here in the woods with often not a lot to do if you can't go skiing or walk too far and not a lot of shops close by where I can go shopping ...argh!!!!   to be back in Oz with my girlfriends having afternoon tea or gossiping with a glass of wine out in their gardens.  Miss them too ... so, so much.

Blown Away

Wow, last evening we had a huge storm. It was like a hurricane blowing through our yard and tree branches were going everywhere.  I heard the geese coming in their formation for flying south and the poor darlings were getting tossed around and blown in all directions.   As much as I love them and have read all about them I never took the weather into consideration.  They were tossing and turning and I was hoping they could land somewhere quickly and find some shelter before any of them were hurt.

The storm didn't last long thank goodness so I sure hope they weren't injured.  I worried about them for a long time.  They have so much to deal with .........  and whilst I was looking for them in the sky and trying to keep out of the horrible wind I noticed a lonely little sunflower in the field which must have come from the crows dropping the sunflower seeds I put out for them all.  Hubby went out and picked it for me and it now sits in the centre of my table and looks beautiful.   Things never cease to amaze me.  A tiny seed dropped by a bird onto the field and up sprouts and blooms a glorious, colourful, flower.

Wow this year has gone quickly.  August is half way through already and the beautiful Canadian geese are flying south already. It's way too early for them to be doing that so it's a bad sign for the coming winter.  I've seen four flocks of them flying over our house ... I love seeing them.... they fly in formation and honk all the way. I was surprised to read that they do a lot of their flying at night .. clever things they must be.  And it takes about 2 weeks to fly from way up north from us to Florida. Many, many hazards on the way of course  ... when I see them I always look up and wish them a safe journey.

A couple of images for you to save to your stash. Please DO NOT upload them to anywhere else.

I love all animals as you know if you are a regular visitor to my blog and sheep are no exception.  I had a pet one for 17 years .. her name was Lamby .. and her mother had twins and could not look after her so she came to our house with a guy on a motorbike when I was about 12 years old.  I had no brothers or sisters so of course she became my best friend and playmate.   I adored her ....
this is such a nice vintage image of a sheep .... I remember mum would go mad when I picked a bunch of flowers from the garden to give to her to eat.  She loved roses best.

Cute as a button.....  Mary Pickford .... famous in her days....

I've been very lazy over the past 8 months whilst I wait for my knee to get better after my bad fall on the ice.  I sort of got that somewhat better then pulled my archiles  tendon .. (that weird thing at the back of your leg down near your ankle..) by golly does it hurt when I try and walk ........ consequently I've been perched on my recliner chair watching the telly for most of the time.

Tour de France, Australian Rules Football, Wimbledon tennis ... have watched them all and enjoyed especially the beautiful chateaux and scenery in France.  Stunning isn't enough to describe the glorious buildings dating back so many centuries.

Anyway I've got a few nice things to share here with you so save them if you wish and add them to your stash....

I wonder what the important announcement was....

If you have been reading my blog for years you will know that I love anything to do with Sherlock Holmes or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle... also Jack the Ripper amazes me and I've read just about every book there is about his murders.  I have also read the book created from the letters from  Arthur Conan Doyle to his mother and of those she replied ... correspondence between the two from when he was a little boy sent away to boarding school right up until her death many decades later.  It was enthralling to read their words and it was like a voyage back in time.  Happening at the moment they were writing them to each other.  There have been many Sherlocks during the ages but my favourite now is Benedict Cumberbatch.  Great stories and even better now when you can get them on audio and listen to them in bed.  :-)

Some of the old seed packets are quite beautiful.  There are thousands of them and I think I love each and every one.  Vibrant colours, and all things pretty.

We're having a heatwave.....hard to believe that the winters are so cold here in northern Canada and then the summers can be so hot. I've not strayed far from the air conditioner ...thank goodness we have one ..... hoping next week there will be cooler temperatures and i can get the deck painted.  Its been too hot to even sit at the computer...........

Darling little koala clinging to his mum whilst she is undergoing surgery. He doesn't want to let go of her .... Phantom... a little joey ... is at the Australia Zoo wildlife Hospital in Queensland, Australia.  I sure miss the koalas of Australia and the kangaroos.  This little one is desperate to stay with its mother and they let him be there.  Good news is mum is doing well and baby is fine.   Thank God for the wonderfully kind people who care.....

Dear old hubby got his luggage back from the bus depot. They had it on the bus all along but it went somewhere else... urgh! .... at least he's a happy camper now and has a change of clothing etc.  I'm missing him but he'll be back pretty soon.  The time goes flying by.... I can't keep up with the months .. soon our summer will be gone and the snow will be back.

Some blog toppers for you if you have a blog and want to add its name or slogan etc... or just use them for cards or any other purpose BUT please do not upload them to any other sharing place especially Pinterest.

Hubby had an 18 hour bus ride this weekend to see his ailing dad.......arrived safely into the city thank goodness but they lost his luggage.....so its no fun for him till it turns up or he goes and buys more clothes. What a nuisance.......keeping fingers crossed that it will turn up but I have my doubts.

sitting on my bed with my cute little peanut doggie ..... she has made herself right at home and we're both enjoying snuggling and watching the French open tennis.  I've fallen completely in love with her and just so glad we found each other and she won't have to be afraid any more. When I think of her awful experiences in such a short little life it makes me very mad and very sad that people can be so mean and horrible ...... on with the tennis now. Hope you are having a nice day wherever you are in the world.

I have a new little sweetheart in my life. Her name is Peanut Daisy.  She is four years old and was already named Peanut so I added the Daisy.  :-)   Dad was a german shepherd and mum was a corgi and she was rescued from a bad place.  Now she is happy and contented and filling our lives with joy and laughter.  I hope we have her for many, many years.

Some cute new visitors to my backyard. A wild mummy duck came to show me her ducklings. Sweet little chirpy things. I sure hope they stay safe as there are a lot of predators in the field.  I love little ducks .. they remind me of boats .. floating along on the surface seemingly at ease but those tiny legs must be paddling like mad.  So wonderful.   Living in the woods is spectacular as I never know what I'm going to come across next.

Our grass is growing so quickly it needs cutting every three days... and the weather is warm .. actually too warm for this time of year .. and already we have forest fires happening down south. I hate hearing about those.  Devastating to wildlife and they consume so many thousands of hectares. Too big to put out.  Breaks my heart.

A birthday card to add to your stash .... family and friends would love receiving this one.

The more years I have on this planet the more I seem to love all things to do with nature. With mothers day coming up what more can one say when you look at these mothers with their babies.
They bring joy to my heart and I love them all.
Happy Mother's Day to all the mums out there.

If you are a regular visitor to my blog you'll know that I love changing things around.  Life's too short to stick to one background or theme or colour....  :-)
It's like the seasons.... white for the winter with lots of snow.... soft greens for the spring ... reminds me of the grass growing out back now that the snow has melted.  Pretty flowers for the summer and fall or autumn as we say back in Australia brings beautiful colours of the falling leaves and of course Halloween.   Red for Christmas, and on it goes.

Perhaps my preference for changing things around might stem from the fact that I mostly wear black. Little flat black shoes sometimes with a bow on the front but always peek a boo toes, a black sweater in the winter or a black t-shirt ... then of course my black short cropped capri trousers in the summer and long warm black trousers for the winter.  Black winter boots, and black coats of course with fur on the collar or shiny buttons.   It was the same back in Australia when I used to work at the Museum and Art Gallery.  Most of the people there wore black ... very professional and always looked nice.   Now all I have to do is tame my craving for black handbags ... I think I have about eleven of them all shapes and sizes ... short handles, long straps, different clasps, patent leather, all sorts of designs.  oh well.... my hubby loves black too.  :-))  thank goodness.
