The Olympic flame is coming through our town today.... I'm not interested although I do enjoy the winter Olympics. Nobody it seems in British Columbia could possibly afford to go to the games unless they are movie stars or millionaires which they could very well be if they live in beautiful "Whistler". It's a stunning environment ....... like something out of a story book. It all looks so unreal because of its gorgeous surroundings and winter mansions ...... It's a favourite spot for so many celebrities.

I'll watch the games because now that I live in the snow it all seems so much nicer. I love all the things they do like ice skating and the luge, downhill, speed skating, etc. But wow!!!! the cost is HUGE .... it's a shame that the ordinary people for so many ordinary days and years now will have to go without ....... just to pay for the darn things.

A pretty image... with great words... You might like to click on it to see it larger and perhaps save it to use as a desktop.
There are so many lovely calendars around in stores .. I just enjoy browsing and reading them.... and lucky me has a gift voucher to the stationery store in town where they sell lots of them.
I have to admit though, that my favourites are Mary Engelbreit's cute and colourful artworks .....
and the wildlife ones they give away free around the town. They are usually filled with beautiful bear photos, moose, deer and cougars... and all the critters that are my neighbours.

I wasn't impressed by Obama's State of the Union Address last night. He seems, as always to go back and forth on his previous words and deeds .... changing his mind, pushing people under the proverbial bus if they suddenly don't agree with him. The Supreme Court judges were not impressed with his inaccurate wording about their actions. And again today ... yet another town hall meeting. I think he thinks he's still on the campaign trail. He needs to stay put in his oval office and get on with what needs to be done and stop touring around trying to change people's minds. Oh dear....

Wow... in 2009 I posted 329 entries in my blog. That's a whole heap of snagging for you if you go back and check out the goodies. Lots of gossip, also some grumbling about the President, movie stars and anything else that takes my fancy. So be sure to go back through the archives and see what's there. That should keep you busy for a few days... lol......

You can never have too many cards that say those words... "thinking of you".... fits for birthdays, illnesses, gosh so many occasions... so click on the image to see it full size and save it from there if you like.....

I'm going shopping today in the next town north of us ... if we kept going passed that town we'd be going North to Alaska... *(s)..... it's a gorgeous drive through British Columbia's countryside and we are sure to see some wildlife. There is a magnificent frozen river half way there and the chunks of ice are gigantic. There are snow topped mountains, millions of wonderful trees laden down with big blobs of snow that look like a giant walked over top and dropped huge marshmallows everywhere. It's so very pretty. And it's always nice to see what the bigger stores have there for us... particularly the supermarkets. I love their freshly baked breads, and I always check out the cakes (not that I can buy any because they are no good for my diabetes)... but its great fun to look.
I just wish I had a couple of thousand spare dollars to really hit the stores ... *(s)..........

My adventure into the grocery store yesterday found Easter Eggs .. I thought What the .... !!!! we haven't even had Valentines Day yet. And by the prices they want for these goodies I think the old bunny and the cupid might just keep flying and hopping on by. So expensive. And the boxes of everything seemed to be getting smaller each time I go in there. Cereal ... I forget what it was .. Allbran or Special K.... something like that. $7.59 ...... and one was even $11.50... Some of the boxes are petite. Suddenly so much thinner ... so much shorter and so much more expensive. Haven't you noticed too... that tins of soup are smaller, and that the containers ... like water bottles or drinks.... have suddenly become more contoured so they don't have to use so much liquid to fill them up. Some containers too have that big bubbled area in the bottom that goes up into the container ... so they don't have to put so much in those and you still think you are getting the same amount. What a bunch of crooks. Oh well.... maybe not buying this stuff will at least help me with my dieting. *(s)

If you wish to save the images ... just click on them to see them full size and you can save them from there. I made a whole bunch of these cards last night to share in my Yahoo groups ... It's a very pretty image and could be used for lots of occasions......

I was surprised to hear Joe Biden this morning on the news say that people earning $85,000 and even $125,000 a year were going to get some tax breaks and how difficult it must be for them. Well good heavens what about those earning less than that .... I'm guessing that would be a great deal of the population. I think if people earning $125,000 a year can't survive then they need to go to survival classes. And Obama ~~~ what can I say when he has to use a teleprompter to speak to 6th graders. Can he never speak without those things. I watch and listen and it's like being at a tennis match with his head going back and forth reading the pre-written words (by his speechwriters).... The powers that be ... seem to be so out of touch with the ordinary man and woman. They are so wealthy and unable to process what its like on a daily basis for everyone else. Sadly he is ruining the United States and I fear for his effect on the country in years to come.

You can click on the wallpaper to bring it up full size... I can't remember if I've shared this one here before ... but if you haven't seen it ... you can save it for your larger screens... 1250x800.
I love using desktop wallpapers... they sure do brighten your day when you turn on the computer and see a pretty image. Vintage is my favourite .... and anything with ribbons, bows, elegance and lace seems to always look right. Enjoy!!
I spent this afternoon redesigning my blog here... so I hope you like it.

Beautiful Jean Simmons died today aged 80. Gorgeous English actress I see so often in the movies on Turner Classic Movie channel. Got me thinking about who is still alive ... or who has died... found a list on internet. You can go through the alphabet and see all the names and it tells you about them. I was surprised to see that old Ernest Borgnine is still going strong at 92... Click on the link if you are interested... it was very informative .....

Kissed by a moose. Big one it is... just love it...
taken in Ontario, Canada. Click on the image to see it larger.
We had a moose come up close to me on the deck one day. I could see her long, long, eyelashes
and hadn't realised how soft their coat was. I gave her carrots and apples.
A little while later in the day along came a baby moose. Mum and baby were
obviously out for a stroll. That was the day they ate the carrot nose off my snowman.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.... white deer... You can see them here.
I, too had a chuckle when the guy mentioned that they sneak around in the summer in amongst the green trees etc ... thinking they can't be seen. Of course they can .. they are purely white. *(s)... Funny little things. They reminded me of the white cat that hangs around our yard in the green of the trees thinking that the birds can't see him hiding there. I guess they don't know they are white. So funny....

You can click on the image and see it full size and save it to your folders. Birthday cards always are handy to add to your stash to send to family and friends.
A birthday supper for me tonight ... was hilarious. Nice food, funny company ... one little girl, and four boisterous and cute little boys. Three of them about 2 and a half years old. I'd never had a meal before with that many little ones close by. Had some nice photos taken of them sitting on the table and me hanging onto them all ... laughing our heads off... waiting for dessert ... cake, jelly and cream and pie. One wanted to bash his cake into one flat piece... one wanted to just eat the whipped cream .. another wanted to eat his jelly (jello) in his hands ... consequently it landed on himself and the floor. Squeals of delight were had by all. Loved it loved it....... being 60 today and having them for company sure did make me feel younger. Should do it more often. Kids are wonderful. And also had the company of my beautiful grand dog. He was so glad to see me arrive in our truck. We cuddled and snuggled for ages. I think he had missed me.

I needed to help my Brian with his new blog background so I logged into my account and used a test one I created a while back. I put in the code for his new background etc .. only to find it had been placed into my own blog ... Yikes!!!! my widgets were gone, my background was different... it was nothing like it usually is so I've had to spend a couple of hours getting it back where it was supposed to be. Darn Blogger. It jumped from my test blog to my normal blog and stuffed everything up. Oh well.... I guess that's why my hair is going greyer by the day since I started blogging.
Image and video hosting by TinyPicI'm beginning to not like the news at all. Haiti is so sad. Depressing and frightening. It will take years for it all to be right again.

Two little grands ....
grandson Connor and granddog Chewie... *(s)..
Chewie is being spoiled and let lie on the sofa. He loves being in that position because he puts his head on the arm of the sofa and can see right out of the window right down to the end of the road.
Love them both.... magnificently!!

It's a big one so it looks perfect on the wider computer screens.
Click on the image of the desktop wallpaper if you want to see it larger and then you can save or install it from there... *(s) I love any image that has somebody feeding birds... I do that regularly and they are such sweet little creatures. They can't wait for me to add the seeds to the feeder... zooming around me ... anxiously wanting to fill up their tummies.

You can click to see my year in 2009 ... the image comes up larger. It was fun to do on FaceBook.. and I titled it "My sixtienth year of existence" seeing that I have only a few days left to be 59... Wow.. doesn't one year sound so much older.... I think I'll stay 59 for a few more years... *(s)

The logistics and problems associated with relief efforts for Haiti are mind boggling. It seems now that planes are lined up and can't land. Packed with vital stuff for everyone and some have had to turn back. And who would have thought about having the planes have enough fuel to return to the USA because there was none available on Haiti. So sad. I am finding it difficult to watch on the telly today as they fear 50,000 might have died. It all seems so hopeless for them. They have nothing there to help themselves. All I can do is keep Haiti in my prayers ........

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Gosh some days seem to start off so horribly ... like today when I saw the Haiti earthquake disaster. So many thousands dead .... missing Americans and others.... what a terrible thing to happen and so hard to believe that its all just 700 miles south of Florida. It's like these people live on another planet almost with non existent "everything" ............. Keep them in your prayers ....

Gosh when are we going to stop buying things that come from China. Yet another problem today on the news with little charms ... containing cadmium. That's horrible... causes brain tumours and all sorts of things when ingested. Kids suck on the charms .. and the damage is done. I hate it. And I don't know of any parent or grandparent who would willingly pay less for a gift for their child knowing it could harm them. I think if all the jobs sent overseas to China were brought back to North America we'd all be a lot safer and the unemployment problem would be solved. Why can't they see this!!!! It's always about the money... despite the dangers to not only our young ones but our pets (as was seen in the dog food fiasco from China)... also the paint they use on toys... Milk products containing Melamine... They need to stop making and importing products here from there......

He's in the sink.... having fun .... a sweet and cute little guy who lives here in Canada. I had the joy of being with him for a short while a week ago. He was so very interested in the plate that happened to be on the table. It had trees around the edge with little cottages and snow and a few lamp posts ... we thought we could see Santa looking out one of the windows... or maybe a reindeer tied to the lamp post.. *(s).... Was there a bird flying by ... ?? Hasn't he got the face of a little guy who should be in the movies... and I just luvvvvvvvvvvvv the little gap between his front teeth.
Do you use Rapidshare to upload or download goodies. Well its a pain in the "you know where". I've been trying for several days to download some scrap pieces and each time it says there are no empty download spaces and I'll have to wait or come back later. So I got up this morning at 3 a.m. and lo and behold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is still saying that they have no vacant spaces and that they are overloaded. I guess its just another ploy to get us to purchase something that they offer freely when it suits them. It has been bugging me for years actually. I've even heard that when you purchase your time with them ... it's still no faster. I think they need to definitely change their name to something else .... rapidshare ... phooey .... I don't know why more people don't use 4shared or other places. Rapidshare is ridiculous......

His tombstone at Graceland reads, "January 8,1935 - August 16, 1977," which means yesterday would have been Elvis' 75th birthday.
I remember the day he died. I was 27 and in the hospital ... the nurses came in crying after hearing it on the radio. I started crying too. It was awful. I had lined up around the city block many times to get into the movie theatre to see his films. Yesterday I watched a few more of them on the telly. He was so handsome. And imagine if his twin brother had lived .. Little Jesse... the world might have had two Elvis's. Happy Birthday to you Elvis. You gave me many happy times listening to, and watching .. you ....

There's a big party at Graceland with lots of cake .... hard to believe he's been gone since 1977.

Our little deer friends had a treat over the past couple of days. Not only did they get heaps of fruit from the supermarket but also brussel sprouts... about 150 lb of them...
This is our boot room and the boxes were around the corner as well. They have eaten most of them already ... and the littlest one today came on his own after he'd been "pushed" away by the older ones. I guess he's way down the pecking order of who gets what first... so he has to wait and try again later. He .. actually I think its a "she" ... came later and got a tummy full and as we are expecting more snow this week I'm glad we got those goodies for them ..... It's so bitterly cold out there ... They sure did love everything... :-)

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

I've been outside this morning .. .with a hammer ... !!!!!!! to break up the chunks of fruit and veggies I put there yesterday for the deer. After a few short moments it all freezes into a solid blob ... and the sweet little things don't seem to be able to penetrate it ... now they have all these frozen raspberries, bits of pears, apples, vegetables and I'm sure they will be happier today when they find them more manageable and edible. It must be like someone letting you loose in a popsicle factory and saying help yourself....... once those little sweet chunks get moistened in their mouths they will think all their birthdays have come at once... *(s)...

Click on the image to see it larger and nicer. *(s).... a frozen river. When I first came to Canada I'd not seen a frozen anything... other than when I stuck my head in the freezer in my kitchen. It was quite an adventure to see frozen lakes and rivers ... I remember my darling Wilbur dog was very scared of his first footstep onto the ice when he heard it crack.
This river seems pretty flat and ordinary but what surprised me the most was seeing a river all lumpy and bumpy. When the water moves underneath the top layer and pushes and pulls the chunks in all directions it reminded me of someone dropping marshmallow junks and having them fall in all positions and layers. So thick, so white, so cold, so beautiful. There is a river on the way to our next northern town Smithers... and if I go passed there again soon I will take a photo of all the chunks and post it on my blog. Amazing.... I still cannot believe that its just a frozen river... rather than a giant cookie sheet covered with something like those marshmallow rice crispies we make at christmas.

My little deer came in the night .. about 4.30 a.m. Brian said he saw them out on the ice looking for food we had left there. Another big haul of veggies and fruit yesterday from the supermarket, 2 hrs of cutting it up and removing plastic bags, rubber bands, labels and the like.... bucket after bucket full ... I think I ended up with 29 little piles of mixed goodies all over the yard. Now I'm headed back outside to shovel it a bit and break it up .. because as soon as it hits the ice it freezes solid. Which probably is a good thing because it doesn't go bad ... but the deer must think of it as delicious, fruity, juicy little popsicles .. *(s).... frozen raspberries, pineapple, apple, pear, wouldn't take long to melt in their mouths and they sure do love it all....
I hope they appreciate this old Aussie's efforts to help them in the bitter winter months ... I"m sure they do.

...if you want to check out the photos I've uploaded to Flickr ... you can see a journey through the woods of British Columbia, from the cabin of a logging truck. My Brian's friend Chris asked him to day if he would like to go with him. The scenery was spectacular and Brian took about 100 or so photos. When you get to the site... click on the magnifying glass to see the images full size.... There are the frozen rivers, lakes, mountains, logging trucks and the country is stunning
Here is the link to them....

Ho hum!!!!
I wonder what 2010 will bring us all. Are you going to call it two thousand and ten or twenty ten ... I vote for the twenty ten. The way the temperatures are here in northern British Columbia I might just sleep through the winter like the bears do. What a life that is... sleep a third of the year .. then wake up and be half as thin. Gosh could I not gain weight in humongous proportions .. eating chocolates ... if I knew I could sleep that long and wake up thinner. *(s). I sure do love the bears.

My latest read is Dan Brown's book "The Lost Symbol".
It's quite enthralling, addictive and very surprising at every turn. Even his website is spooky and wonderful.....
I'll be looking forward to seeing the movie when its made... as I'm sure they will indeed do another one from the authors repertoire of writings. I loved the Da Vinci Code.. both book and movie.. and of course the previous one "Angels and Demons".
Without giving away any of the plot.... it's a spectacular read .... but be prepared to sit on your sofa longer or stay in bed longer whilst you read more chapters to see what else is going to happen.

Saturday, January 2, 2010

All I've done today it seems... is watch the telly. I woke up early, read my book a bit in bed then Brian told me there was a Tina Turner concert on .. from London ... the one she did in 2008-2009 .... so I watched that and sang along ... she made me tired just watching her... rocking and "rolling on the riiiivvvveeeerrrrr". It brought back memories of being back in Australia having one of my many parties where everyone wanted to play her songs. "Simply the Best".... of course she is. And being 69-70 doesn't seem to have slowed her down one bit. Then I watched another of Bruce Willis's movies in the Die Hard series. Love them all and have seen them many times. So now its off to the treadmill for me... gotta do something .. :-))

Well I guess its time to get back on the diet. No more yummy things... blah!!!!!!! I've noticed my weight creeping up since I've not been able to ride my bike on the ice. As much as I love the snow and the cold I'm anxiously waiting for spring and summer so I can get out there on my bike and get some exercise. With the basket on the front its a good and easy way to go over to the store and bring home some bread or light things .... Not a lot one can do in the winter if you don't ski or go snow mobiling. Thank goodness for my electric treadmill and my new cd player so I can plug in my ears and run to AC/DC rocking and rolling. :-))
