This morning I woke up, and as usual took my blood sugar readng. Wow was I surprised. It was sky high and I don't know why. I was awake early and took 2 aspirin for the aches in my legs but am not sure if that affected the glucose reading or not. Managing diabetes sure is a balancing act. Trial and error all the time ... oh well! ... I took more insulin this morning which I never have to do ... and I will have to get out there and go for a ride on my bike.. now that the snow has melted again.

A desktop wallpaper from my Collections ... just click on the image to see it full size and you can save it from there.

Thought I would do something new to my blog today....  I like it when the centre moves and the side parts stay put.. *(s)....I've gone all vintage looking.   I love the images of times gone by ....
 reflections of the past ....
Little grandson has a birthday today .. he's two and we got him some nice gifts but he seemed happier with the balloons grandpa blew up for him before he arrived.  He went out the door with them all tied on strings and a couple of cookies in his pockets and he's all ready for Halloween tomorrow night.  He's going to be a monkey.  (As if he isn't one already ... *(s) .. full of mischief.)

Snag this one if you like... its all wintery and pretty for November and December.

You can click on the desktop image and see it full size and save it from there if you wish.
I love using desktop wallpapers ...  this one is very elegant and pretty.
What a wonderful surprise just now. As I was creating a new top image for my blog ... my Brian says come look. Sure enough... deer have already appeared at the bottom of our yard to help themselves to the bird feeder. We've not had them this early but perhaps today as they wander around and plough through the snow to get anywhere ... they maybe are thinking that its the middle of winter. They are so gorgeous. I guess it is time to be getting not only bird seed but the cracked corn they love so much. I will be sharing some pretty photographs here I guess soon if they continue to arrive. They look wonderful in the snow.

Halloween is nearly here... we went shopping today for some groceries and of course came upon heaps of candies. Big boxes full of all sorts of yummy things. We usually get something we like as well so we can eat the"left overs". Some years we've had about 100 little visitors but each year since I've been here the number has dwindled a bit. Last year we had about 40 I think. It seems many people don't take their kids out wandering much now... in favour of going to the big celebrations often held in public areas.. which is a good thing. Some private properties have barbecues and bonfires etc ... I sure do love seeing the little ones all done up .... but it gets really cold here in Canada so most of them have to have their costumes over top of their very warm ordinary clothes. I'm hoping for lots of left overs... Cadbury mixed candy bars which I love.....

I don't understand President Obama. Not only is he out playing more golf than ever, basketball and other sports but now he's gone on the campaign trail ... (did he ever leave it..) once again to bolster Democratic support for candidates. Why doesn't he stay at his job in the White House, have those other 5 or so meetings he wants to have (after the six already) and make a decision on what to do with Afghanistan. The troops need more support. How much longer is he going to dither around before saying yes or no to more involvement.
You can't bring them home... no matter how we would all love to see them back with their families. If they come home .. then the bad guys have won and all those thousands of deaths of military personnel will have been for nothing. A decision needs to be made soon .... get on with it Barack .... do your job and stop messing around with more election stuff. You made it.. you are the President..... now make the decisions ...
14 were killed yesterday and 8 now today ....
God Bless them .. they deserve your swift decision.

I hope they get fired............. how stupid and wow.. what negligence.

The Northwest Pilots who overshot a Minnesota runway by 150 miles last week told investigators they were using their personal laptops in the cockpit, a violation of company policy, according to a National Transportation Safety Board advisory.
The two pilots, interviewed separately on Sunday, told investigators they lost track of time when they used their laptops while in a “concentrated period of discussion” about the new monthly crew flight scheduling system.
The system reportedly changed after the Northwest-Delta merger.
The pilots told NTSB officials that they had not been monitoring the airplane or calls from Air Traffic Control at that time, according to the report.
They might have missed a message from the tower that there was a bomb on board... or what if the airport they were supposed to land at was under a terrorist attack... all sorts of reasons that could have been disastrous for the plane and its passengers. FIRE THEM ........ THERE ARE NO EXCUSES FOR THIS .......

I haven't made any desktops yet for Halloween but this one will do... It's a nice big old black cat with his paws on the mice. *(s). We have lots of cats around here ... I'm not liking them all that much lately because they only have eyes for the birds at my birdfeeders. A big white fluffy one parks himself on the green grass and thinks nothing or nobody can see him. He stands out like a beacon.. lol... funny thing he is. Today he won't be so easy to spot because we have snow piling up. I hope he stays home and leaves my birds in peace ... Sadly on the news today another little girls body has been found. These little creatures seem to all be walking home from school or walking from someone's place to their own. I think parents need to begin taking more responsiblity for the safety of their kids ... as Geraldo Rivera said on the telly yesterday its not like "Ozzie and Harriet" any more. I never saw that show but I know who he means and I know what those times were like when you had no need to lock your door .... everyone was welcome to your house... you weren't frightened ...... times have changed. There are monsters out there waiting to grab the little ones. So awful for families but gosh.... they need to stop letting their kids walk so far on their own. You can click on the image of the card if you want ... and it will come up larger and you can save it from there and perhaps use it to send to your little ones you love.
On a more cheerful note ... my lovely grand dog is coming to stay with us for a week soon. I love having him around. He's so big and smoochy and a bit of a scaredy cat really ... we'll have some nice long walks before the weather gets too cold and miserable ... and we'll enjoy breakfast in bed .. he loves being up on the bed with me "helping" demolish my toast and Aussie vegemite.
That's him in the photo on the right hand side of the blog.

Such horrible things we see on the news. A little girl... Somer ... was murdered this week on her way walking home from school. I'm still wondering why a 7 year old is allowed by those she loves to walk the mile distance to get her from school to her house. She was with some other siblings, probably one of them being her little twin brother... when they had some sort of tiff and she walked off ahead of them. The kids got to their destination and she wasn't there. Some monster snatched her from somewhere along that route... her little body was found in a garbage dump some 50 miles from her house in Florida. ~~~~ As I watched more of the story today I was stunned to hear that 57,000 sex offenders live in Florida and just in the 5 mile radius around her home there were 157 of them. That's a huge amount of monsters roaming around on foot, or in vehicles. The sweet little ones going to school or just playing in the neighbourhood ..... Poor little things ... its like a mine field .... what chance do they have ... And as I also watch the advertisements on the telly for Viagra I wonder why men need this pill to make them want even more sex with more little girls. It should be banned. She didn't deserve this ... and as I still watched later on this morning another one has gone missing .... I guess it is happening every day but we just don't hear about them all. God bless the little ones ..... keep them safe from these predators. I wish they could turn all these men bright purple or something else that we could easily recognise them as they walk amongst us in malls, supermarkets, bookstores, movie theatres ...... And pray that the parents of these innocent little children have some brain power to wonder why they are not picking their kids up from school or walking the distance with them.

Well I just finished writing two new entries to my blog this afternoon only to get so annoyed that the spacing in them wouldn't go .. or do.. what I wanted it to do ... I deleted them both. Why does blogspot not put the words where they are supposed to be ... or space the lines properly... or not upload the image accordingly. Oh well... if any of you have mastered the discrepancies and workabilities of this silly blogspot program please let me know. I guess I'll just keep pressing on and hope that I don't end up with miles of space .... or nothing appearing as it should be ........... grrrr!!!! back to the drawing board as the old saying goes.......
It looks like the old witch and her kitty kats went into the right space here where I intended them to go... maybe she waved her magic wand or said the abra-cad-abra- ......... cute little image .. not sure who the artist is... but I love the kitties surrounding her... Not bad being able to transport six of her furry friends on her broomstick... *(s) Halloween won't be far away now... I wish I could go out there and do the trick or treating thing... never done that... never will get the chance to now I'm old.. :-((

I'm glad the family is being charged with all sorts of bad stuff ... the Heene family who set off the balloon and told the world that their 6 year old son was contained in the bottom part of it ... it was flying high into air space and all sorts of things could have happened. Turns out it was all a hoax ... but at what expense. The military even got involved. People in ambulances, fire rescue and all types of rescue vehicles, helicopter pilots etc... were chasing this balloon across the USA ..... terrified that the little boy would crash land or worse. Maybe get sucked up into the helicopter blades, crash into power lines, into mountains ... all sorts of horrendous endings .....
Awful stuff ... and who I wonder, suffered because the authorities were out doing this and could not attend to them. The kids in the family even sleep in their clothes so when their storm chasing dad tells them to move they do so. Well isn't that child endangerment. What the heck are kids doing chasing storms. And how must that impact on their lives ... living and sleeping in a continuous state of anxiety. They all seem like a very weird bunch. Media hogs .. wanting more tv coverage and their own show ... as if Wife Swap wasn't enough. Gosh this really bugs me.. I hope they throw the book at these parents.

Yesterday little grandson came for a visit. He kept busy playing on the blackboard drawing with chalk and seemed to like the bit where he had to clean it all off with a damp cloth better than the actual drawing. *(s) Whilst he was here his grandpa downloaded a halloween screensaver for him to enjoy. What a disaster that was!!! DO NOT ever download screensavers. They are filled with all sorts of crappy product advertisements, program changes, icons and anything else they can bombard you with. It changed our Outlook Express toolbars, my Incredimail wouldn't work properly, strange things were coming out of the woodwork as they say .... it even took us a while to uninstall the darn thing. So do be careful. They are notorious for messing up your computer. Do without them or do what I do and put my pretty desktop wallpapers into a folder and direct Windows XP to find the folder and display them .......... it does that in such an interesting and different way ..... I've included a new desktop wallpaper for you here. Click on the image to see it full size and either install it or save it from there.

Vintage wallpaper for you today... click on the image to see it full size and install it or save it from there. I have seen this little girl in many old photographs and postcards etc... she must have been one of the photographers favourite models.

We have S N O W ......... it's been falling all day and building up quite a bit. Yesterday was fine and I went for a bike ride .. now today it seems winter has well and truly arrived. So cold.... but very pretty.

Thanksgiving today in Canada. Very quiet day for us however. Kids are doing their own thing... one lives a long way away from us. It's been so chilly lately I think the day will be spent inside watching the telly and keeping warm. I sure would love some pecan pie though.... its my absolute favourite ... never had it back in Australia.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yikes it seems like winter is upon us here today in British Columbia. Very chilly with lots of snow on the mountains. I'll be building snowmen again before I know it. And old Santa will be flying over our house with his reindeers .. on his way up to the North Pole. I think the witches, spooks and goblins will be frozen on Halloween. Just as well I made some nice quilts in Australia and brought them with me to Canada ... and also made some new ones here as well. It's nice to be able to really use them in the cold rather than have them more as decorator items like in Tasmania.

Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize... !!!!!!!
I'm sorry but I think this is wrong. The decision is premature for a leader less than a year into his first term and with no definitive progress in sight on a range of foreign policy fronts. He doesn't write his speeches .. and that seems to be all he does lately. Go overseas, stand in front of podiums with his teleprompters and move his head back and forth to read it ... as if he's watching a tennis match. I'm thinking after Al Gore's win last time that the Nobel Peace Prize is going along the same track as the useless United Nations. If he deserved it I'd say well done Mr. President... but what has he really done.............. you can talk as much as you want and that's about it ............... wins the Peace Prize in the morning and goes to a war discussion in the afternoon. He should have made up his mind about sending more troops long before it has escalated into a quagmire of death and defeat. Horrible situation, horrible war.... but the poor guys over there need more help ... give it to them now... ! You cannot leave it ..... or those thousands who have died and the terrible amount of thousands injured will have been for nothing.
London Times: Absurd Decision on Obama Makes a Mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize
Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America's first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.
Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

Stunned today watching the news... school children in Florida are now expected to bring their own toilet paper, soap, copying paper and other items to school because there is no money to pay for that stuff. Of all the things that are being cut back ... school children and oldies seem to be the ones taking the brunt of it all. I get really annoyed when I hear of wasteful government spending on roads to nowhere, military planes they don't really want .... salary increases, bailouts, expensive overseas trips by the President that aren't necessary... and a zillion other things that they have spent money on.
And to push his health care package ... that Obama says will not add "one cent" to the deficit ... (who is he kidding) .... he has 150 doctors turn up at the White House for a photo op ... who were told to wear their white coats. Some didn't ... and they were provided with one from the hundreds or so that were "on hand" .... so the President could look good in amongst those who supported the new bill for health care. How false was that. Gosh I do get my back up when I see stuff like this.
I'm not a Republican or a Democrat... I'm an "Aussie"... :-)) but I sure do feel bad for what the USA seems to be dealing with. I simply cannot stand that woman Pelosi.... she flip flops back and forth with her rantings when it suits her.... changes her opinions like she changes her underwear ... urgh!!! such a silly woman she is.

Visited the dentist today... I hate going there. The moment I walked into the place I said .. "It smells like the dentists ".... everyone laughed but it was true. Now I know why my beautiful Aussie dog Wilbur used to shiver and shake whenever he had to go into the vet's surgery.... he didn't want to be there and neither did I today. It was only a small filling but along with it came neck ache, head ache, numb jaw, numb tongue and half my face ..... water running down my face instead of my throat when I tried to drink ... I always come out feeling bedraggled and bad... but one look in the mirror in their bathroom put a smile on my face. My little front tooth was sparkling like it was brand new ....... When I got home after our hour's drive ...... I needed a nap. :-)
Looked out the window as I was taking off my coat and shoes ... and found a beautiful woodpecker trying like a crazy bird to get the seeds out of the little perspex container hanging in the tree. He was such a beauty.... and the telephone repair man who we spoke to recently.. told us that woodpeckers were one of the biggest trouble makers ... wrecking phone lines, poles and anything else I guess ....... so funny, so gorgeous. I hope he comes back soon so I can have a better look at him.

Monday, October 5, 2009

Well I stayed up late last night to watch Desperate Housewives on the telly. Second show of the new season.... only to find it was a repeat of a very old episode. I was so annoyed ........ why do they do that. Not only is it silly its confusing if you are a new viewer to shows .. when they repeat one that makes no sense to you and then you can't even follow up next week on the storyline because DH is so "off the wall" at times and moves along very quickly ...... Then they wonder why the ratings fall. People get sick of them doing this. I think I will write to ABC and put in a complaint. Not that it will matter to them but for the life of me I can't see how they think they can keep viewers when only the second episode of a new season is not new at all.... Urgh!!!

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Are they kidding!!!! Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes little girl Suri has a 3.5 million dollar wardrobe. She's about 5 years old I think. Couldn't they find a better way to spend so much money. ~~~~
And sadness today once again as I hear on the news of 8 soldiers dying in Afghanistan... fighting the bad guys. It was a big battle ... I wish they would just use more air strikes to wipe them all out instead of worrying so much about civilian casualties. One can't do that when fighting wars. They didn't do it in World War II ....... it was necessary to do what needed to be done to win. It's terrible that they often use civilians as shields but gosh so many military are dying.... It's a horrible thing and they can't let the bad guys win. The world will be in worse shape if they don't defeat the Taliban .......But it seems to be getting worse, and getting more difficult each day there. I'll keep the good guys in my prayers and their families. How devastating it must be to get that terrible news.

Friday, October 2, 2009

Well I never liked Dave Letterman... now I like him even less...
Admitting to affairs with women he works with ... on his show .... interspersed with jokes which the audience laughed at ... was deplorable. What about his wife and family. Just because he got caught .. now he's gone all "honest" .......... And to think he made fun of Sarah Palin's daughter getting pregnant........ he's one bad dude. I hope he loses his show.

Just click on the images to see them larger and save from there....

President Obama's visit to Denmark to help his hometown of Chicago win the 2016 Olympic Games .... he's the President not the Mayor of Chicago... what the heck is he doing there .. doing this... when there are a whole heap more pressing things to think about. !!!
And Michelle went first .... so there were two Air Force Ones carrying them both... at what cost I wonder. Just that fly over around New York recently which caused all the panic ... was estimated at $350,000 and that was just for the plane. !!!
