Image and video hosting by TinyPic Catching up with old friends... it's lovely. Sometimes sad when you remember the good times or those friends you have lost ... sad that age is creeping up and things you once loved and cherished are no longer around.... but joyful to hear the voice, as if nothing had changed. Happy to get such a nice welcome on the phone .... talking about mates, good times, places, people, old and new friendships, new lives, new and old dreams, important events, celebrations and all the things that the years have not told us about. Today was such a day...... *(s)........

Cute little cat on a birthday card for you to use. Just click on the image to see it full size and save it from there....
Our silly power went off again yesterday so it was a weird time again waiting around in the dark and quiet for it to be connected again. They had 5 trucks in our area trying to fix the problem.... thankfully it seems all is well again ........
two times in one day is a bit much ... (*(s)

What the heck can one do when the power goes off... Everytime it happens I think of those pioneers who had no electricity. I guess if you grew up with it and were used to not having stuff that works by electric power you would manage as they did.... but no computer, no warmth, no television, no music .. in fact no noise at all except the ticking of the battery clock on the wall. Couldn't make a hot cup of tea to warm me up... couldn't get dressed or shower in the bathroom because there is no window in there and it was dark as a mine .... I went so many times to click the light switch on it wasn't funny .... *(s) ....... Couldn't do much housework with no vacuum cleaner, or dishwasher... oven... stovetop.... couldn't even have much for lunch except a health bar and a glass of milk. Treadmill wouldn't go either ... and too much rain and cold outside to go walking or bike riding... luckily the power came on 4 hours sooner than originally stated .. so now at least we have some heat and my old Aussie tummy has been infused with a hot cuppa....... *(s)

I'm using hubby's newer computer than mine... and I love it. I have a wide screen and the best part of all is having much, much more room to stash away all my creative goodies I need to make things in Paintshop Pro. One of these days I'll venture into Photoshop ... but I sure do enjoy not having to worry so much about taking up space on the harddrive ... and I can install plug ins, fonts and all things yummy I need to work with..... I'm off the computer soon to watch the new season's first episode of Desperate Housewives and the Amazing Race ... thank goodness for new episodes of everything.

Heavens above .. I can't believe next week will be October. We have plenty of Halloween stuff in the stores and the snow is beginning to fall on the mountains. It won't be long before its all over down here .. and up to my ears. *(s)... I'll miss the lawn, the green trees, being able to sit out on my deck ... and all the things that go with spring and summer but I sure do love the snow ...

Anyway .. I've added a pretty card here for you if you wish to snag it ... click on the image to see it full size and save from there.

I don't get the United Nations.... I've been there ... been inside the room where they all sit and listen to the speeches through their headphones. I met a lovely lady who worked there and who spoke 6 languages ... she obviously was a translator. But this week to see the goons up there ... like Ahmadinejad, Quaddafi, spouting off ... denegrating the United States and other countries ... is ridiculous. Why are we giving them this public platform to push their diabolical agendas ...
they are terrorists ... they love terrorists ... they support terror ... and Ahmadinejad still says the holocaust never happened. !!!!
The United Nations was founded after World War II by the victorious allied powers with the hope that it would prevent and intervene in conflicts between nations and make future wars impossible or limited .....
It's failed.... it does nothing ...... And the cost of all the security for these heads of countries to come and go safely is paid for by the public. Why are they even here in North America. Why are they allowed visas to enter the country. Quaddafi recently publicly welcomed the terrorist home who is dying of cancer ... who had served only a short amount of years in jail after loading a bomb onto a plane and blowing up hundreds of people over Lockerbie, Scotland. Many of them were USA citizens. The UN needs to be overhauled pretty soon before the words of these maniacs are embedded into the heads of volatile young people who know nothing of wars ...or suffering .... and who just want to be martyrs.....

Went for two bike rides today... early in the morning and then after lunch ... wow it was windy and pushing us backwards almost down the road... but it made me pedal harder and that's what I need because this darn insulin is making me put on weight. Which is really, really unfair when I'm doing the right thing with my eating and exercising yet I seem to be getting nowhere fast.
The leaves were blowing all over our yard from the trees in the field over the fence.. and throughout the town ... they were all so pretty but hundreds and thousands of them were zooming through the air and landing everywhere.
The geese too were flying over early this morning honking as they went. I love watching them. They are heading south ... not sure where they go but it must be a terrible, long voyage. Their beautiful "V" pattern is a sight to behold... and streams of them seem to join up and mingle together like traffic merging at roundabouts or intersections or when you are driving along the highway and merge into the other traffic. So gorgeous... I always look up at them and wish them a safe journey... and of course will miss them until they return again next year.

Good Heavens... a media blitz by the resident president .... :-)
He'll talk to dictators but he won't talk to Fox ...I think he thinks
he's a pretty cool cat.
Some comments here if you are interested... I'm appalled at how he is treating "ordinary" USA citizens. He seems to have the same old answers to the same old questions.. all pre-prepped of course. None of his questions and answers sessions are off the cuff.... like one bloke said I think the only show he's not been on is the Food Channel...

This is so much fun....I purchased it online for $6.99 and I'm hooked. LOL.... Never bought a game before and don't usually play on the computer apart from creating in Paintshop pro but this seemed like a fun deal so I used my paypal. Well since I downloaded it I've been sitting here solving the crimes, finding clues, getting rid of suspects, putting lost pieces together, all sorts of interactive goodies .... I love it. Great fun .... now I'll have something to do in the long winter months... trying to beat my own scores .... its so addictive..... so pretty with its glorious colours, situations, and effects. Love the old Sherlock.... :-))

President Obama is appearing on a record 5 sunday shows this weekend to push his health care program...which nobody seems to want. Doesn't he think he's over doing it. !! I've never heard of Presidents doing such a large amount of media appearances. Over exposure ......... !!!
I think everyone, including this Aussie, is getting sick of seeing him.

I've been looking through FaceBook to catch up with some old friends but golly ... it's sometimes difficult to know if its really them or not from their photograph on their profile. I've been away from Australia for ten years now. I know I have changed. I'm thinner, my hair colour is different, my face shape is different..... and some of the profiles I look at thinking is it them ... is it not. One would think with a name you knew that it must be them... but when you search for a name up comes heaps of people with the same name..... I'm amazed now at how many there are just with my name... christian and surname.... heavens above. I thought there was only one of me... LOL but not so. Oh well... I guess if they refuse my friend request then I'll know its not them or they have taken a dislike to me ...

I think I'm addicted to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. :-) After reading his heart warming letters to his mother .. written to her over 54 years of his lifetime from when he went off to boarding school at age 8 till her death in the early 1900's .... I felt compelled to find out more about his writings ... so I went online to our library and now have in my possession the real stories he wrote .. just as they were constructed when he was telling stories of Sherlock Holmes which were published in the Strand magazine around 1890 and beyond .... It's wonderful.
I love seeing the portrayals of his stories on the telly ... or in movies ... but its not quite the same as seeing every word he wrote ... which has not just been interpreted by a script writer or screenwriter. The illustrations throughout the book are the real ones .... done by another person of course ... and its like I've stepped back in time to be there and read the serial editions posted weekly ..... to see them as they were done over one hundred years ago. Doyle was such a prolific author ... who did not particularly like Mr. Sherlock Holmes .. but he was the one who brought in the cash he needed so he continued the mysteries and cases to be solved .... I might have to put the beautiful full collection book on my christmas list. I sure would like to own it. :-) And I sure wish I could meet Mr. Conan Doyle to tell him how much joy he brings to me when I think of him and his lifetime's work and adventures. Such a nice man ... who cared deeply for his mother, his wife, siblings, children ... one sad thing .. his children never had children so there were no grandbabies to inherit or carry on the name....
Just went online and purchased a second hand copy for $6.50 ... Can't wait to own it... Wooo Hoooooo !!!!!!!!!!

Usually I'm moaning about the USA President... today is our Prime Minister's turn. I clicked over to the news a while ago and there he was sitting with Obama ... at some meeting they were having and he was perched on his chair speaking French. What the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think Obama had a clue what he was on about.
I know French is on all our products we purchase .... for the people back in Montreal ... but why do they have to speak it first when most of their audience speaks English. I get really annoyed at that. I do love hearing it and learned it for three years ... but when only 5% of the Canadian population speak it ... why does the PM speak it first. They translate it into English ... why not the other way around. All our signs, products, etc all have the French interpretation on them.... which I don't mind because I learn a lot when I look at the labels etc.. :-)) but hearing it spoken to the whole Canadian and USA population in this case... is beyond bad taste ... its almost insulting........... they seem to bend over backwards to accommodate the French speaking population .........

Two pretty cards you might like to use...
click on the images to see them full size and save from there.

Sad to hear about Patrick Swayze passing away. This darn cancer seems to be the most prevalent of diseases ... he was only 57.Obama is doing his political campaigning again today on the news I noticed. He sure does like being on the telly. I am really tired of hearing him and seeing him. I wish he'd settle down and work in his oval office like any other President instead of being out there like one of the boys.I cannot imagine the cost of all this political campaigning... seems to be unnecessary when he's already the President.
All my favourite shows begin on the telly again this week and next ... Amazing Race, Desperate Housewives, NCIS and the new NCIS Los Angeles .... also Private Practice which is such a good program... Fringe I like too .. so at least I won't have to be watching Barack's face anymore...

Monday, September 14, 2009

Gosh when does President Obama get any work done. If he's not out and around the country like he's still on a campaign trail.... he's on 60 minutes (which he does every time something seems to be failing) ... or else he's making speeches on the telly. I'm amazed at how much air time he puts in. Town Hall meetings... why doesn't he sit in his Oval Office and actually work ...
he must spend all his days planning what he is going to say at his next public outing. A lot of people are getting sick of seeing his face making speeches.

The power went off last night at 11 p.m. What a shock that was ... when we were told it was a planned outage from 11 till 5 a.m. (nobody told us)........ Saturday night .. one would think they would have a better plan than that. Oh well... I woke up at about 2 a.m.... couldn't put the kettle on for some tea, couldn't put the light on to get to the bathroom, couldn't pass the time on the computer, couldn't turn on the telly and watch an old movie ... or the news... couldn't read a book or magazine. How the heck did the people manage back when they had no electricity. I guess I should have had one of those little lanterns they used to carry or a candle. It was even dark and scarey throughout the town when I looked out the window. The dog next door didn't like it either with no light at the back of his house where he sleeps ... he howled at the moon.... no street lights ... it was like everyone had moved away .....
Thank goodness its on now and I'm wide awake once again ... 6.30 a.m. and I wondered what day it was ... :-) I guess we don't appreciate the electricity until we haven't got it. And one certainly can't moan at the cost of it.... it's bloody horrible without it.

Do they do this for the publicity ... !!
ADD another one to the list of weird celebrity baby names, with the birth of a boy for US socialite Nicole Richie.
Richie, 27, best known for the reality TV series The Simple Life and for being singer Lionel Richie's daughter, announced on her website the arrival of a baby boy.
Richie said she and lover, 30-year-old Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, had named their boy Sparrow James Midnight Madden.
Reps for Ritchie wrote on her official website: "In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden.

Remembering today...
with sadness in my heart.
It was such a terrible day..

The Presidents speech on health care last night. All I got from it was him saying "it would not add a dime to the deficit". !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does he really believe that or is it just more of the same rhetoric. Shaking my head at this one .... :-((

Hard to believe that tomorrow will be the 8th anniversary of September 11th. I remember it very well. Sitting on the sofa having my tea and toast watching the news when on came a guy saying a plane had just hit the world trade centre. I thought he meant a little private plane ..... I think he did too until we saw the footage and the mayhem.
I still cannot believe it happened. For months it looked like a scene from a movie... I could not sleep, I hardly ate anything ... I cried a lot and tried to imagine what people would have gone through. I especially seemed to think of the firefighters going into the building when everyone else was trying to get out. Whatever you think of the wars happening now and the sacrifices the troops are making .. we cannot let these terrorists continue on their path to oblivion. Their sole purpose in life is to cause death ... God bless all those who died on that awful day in September ...

First day back to school for our little Hannie. She got off early and came for a visit for the rest of the afternoon. We walked over to the ice cream store... grandpa, Connor, Hannie and me ... but it was slow going because nearly two year old Connor wanted to pick up all the little pebbles, investigate the grass, stand and watch the birds, point at all the trucks parked and going along the highway, and anything else that he could think off rather than keep walking in a straight line. It was like walking with a dog who wanted to stop all the time to pee..... LOL.

I said to Hannah I hope we get to the ice cream shop before Christmas. :-) Ice cream was enjoyed by all and then we began our trek home again. Same thing... Connor wanting to pick up where he'd left off coming over ... thinking maybe he could do it all again on the way back. I guess the walk wore him out because he closed his eyes after fighting it for so long... and napped until his mum and dad picked him up. Quite a treat with his little blonde head ....

This desktop wallpaper is very pretty full size so click on it to see it larger and save it from there.
I love mauve ... its so soft and delicate.
It's 1280 x 800 size so it should look glorious on your wide computer screen.

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Wow... when one comes back to a smaller computer screen from being on a nicer, larger one.. it's a bit of a shock. I've spent all day re-doing my desktop wallpapers in all my Collections at whimsydust.com ..using our larger computer and they all look so pretty ... so they fit nicely on the 1280 size.... With the smaller screen you miss so much of the pretty background like here in my blog ... Would be much easier if everyone used the same things... settings etc.
Oh well... it kept me busy whilst the rain kept coming down.
I've added one here for you ... just click on it to see it full size and save from that image.... hope you like it...

I like making new blog headers and backgrounds and this mauve colour I think is so pretty.
Nothing much else to do today up here in the woods. The rain is still coming down and last night it was so misty and foggy it reminded me of my mystery stories ... I half expected to see an old black, Victorian carriage emerge from the fog and ramble on down the cobblestoned roads ... past the old gaslight lamp, with horses rearing their heads and whizzing past me .. standing on my deck. LOL.... It was very eerie but sort of nice and something we don't see much here.
I thought for a moment I was suddenly transported back in time to Jack the Ripper days or Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson ... perhaps I've seen too many murder mysteries .. :-) I don't think I would have particularly liked to have lived in those times .. as much as I like reading about it ... it wouldn't suit me... well maybe if they had pretty teacups and saucers which I know they did. Fancy dresses .. but how did they manage in 90 degree heat with all those bustles, petticoats and whatever else they wore under there. No electric fans, air conditioning, refridgerators, even toilets with buttons to push.

Saturday, September 5, 2009

A big new desktop wallpaper for you to click on and see full size and save it from there. Halloween sure won't be far away. We went to the supermarket today and they have their goodies already in there... I've never been trick or treating ... but I can imagine its so much fun. I would have loved to do it. Loving the candy of course, but can't have that now ... with my diabetes. I sure do enjoy seeing all the little ones come knocking on the door.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Well I'm ready to pull my hair out. My Yahoo mail has not been coming in today at all and I've spent about 3 hours if not more on a chat thingy with their technical people. Doing all sorts of changes, tests and other things and still not working. They have now referred me to someone else... and will contact me in one or two days time. First I got chatting with a lady named Hannah and we went through a bundle of tasks and options... told her all my information.. then she told me to do something and the whole chat process ended abruptly. I got back on wanting to continue with Hannah when up popped an Austin. !!!! Couldn't have Hannah back ... so another hour or two with Austin still didn't help after I'd had to go through all the process again.
I pay for my Yahoo email account so I'll have 2 gigabytes of space for my mail from my groups and from other yahoo groups.... so this shouldn't be happening. I could not even access my mail from their home page so I don't know if I'm the only one having the problem... or not... Gmail yesterday went beserk and nearly blew up ... so perhaps today is Yahoo's turn. Oh well... I'll keep on truckin as my Brian would say. Just have to get creative and forget about the mail piling up... hopefully soon I'll get my account working ....

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Don't forget that I have a new group ... where I share all the things I create. You can click on the image to go to my groups page on my site and then join from there if you wish.
You are most welcome so consider yourself invited ... :-))
Lots of pretty things to snag. I'm the only one posting so there isn't a lot of mail .... I usually send in Whimsybit tubes, desktop wallpapers, Incredimail, O.E. stationery, cards and other things I think everyone there might like....
I'm busy today outside working on our deck... what a job. I'm covered in dust from sanding the paint off ... then we have to repaint before the weather changes which it seems to do here much like it does back in Tasmania. We would always say back home.... if you don't like the weather now come back in ten minutes. :-)) Never knew what to wear on any given day.
Keep the Californians in your prayers. Terrible fires burning there and also here still in Canada. Just in British Columbia we had 2400.
